ANNUAL

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

Every year, the Glenn Family Foundation runs a campaign to collect school supplies for our partner primary schools throughout Trinidad.  We aim to expand that drive to target preschools and secondary schools as well, making sure that every pupil is better equipped to excel in their studies regardless of financial background.

DISASTER READINESS

SUPPLY KITS

Tri-fuel generators.  Glow sticks.  Water Pouches.  We aim to have kits stocked and up-to-date with items at the ready for when disaster strikes throughout the entire Caribbean zone.  It is common knowledge that the Caribbean is vulnerable to a variety of potential natural catastrophes.  Between the hurricanes in the eastern Caribbean, the earthquakes and volcanoes of the lesser Antilles and the ubiquitous sinkholes, flooding and mudslides the West Indies is unfortunately vulnerable to many types of crisis.  These disaster kits will be ready to be deployed instantly in the event of any of these horrors as the Glenn Family Foundation amasses the purchasing capacity.  We will be buying kits and storing them in each nation from Guyana, South America to Nassau, Bahamas.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENT

AND TECHNOLOGY

PETTING ZOO

In 2020, our board members will be organizing an open-air festival around musical and musicianship in under-served and stigmatized areas, encouraging pre-teens in particular to examine and play with various musical instruments, get instant instruction from on-site artists and get the chance to walk away with an instrument of their very own.

Similarly, we aim to do a technology petting zoo in 2020 as well.  This will expose residents in these same areas to the "latest, greatest, newest, now" technologies and encourage pre-teens to develop their technological literacy before giving them the opportunity to go home with a device of soem sort themselves.

COMMUNITY BLOCK PARTY

The Glenn Family Foundation aims to organize community block parties where supplies of some kind will be distributed.  This program will be more sporadic rather than perennial depending on what resources (financial, labor, time, etc.) GFF board members and volunteers have.

FEMPOWERMENT WORKSHOPS

Imagine that you know of someone providing a resource that you didn't need.  Imagine that, at the same time, someone on the other end of your community had access to information that would greatly help your business endeavors.  FemPowerment Workshops are bi-monthly, loosely structured meetings of emerging women entrepreneurs gathering to share knowledge, connections and encouragement as it pertains to the pursuit of their respective business plans.  Sometimes the solutions to your problems already exist in your community.

SAN JUAN COMMUNITY REDEVLOPMENT PROJECT

The Director of The Glenn Foundation has deep ties to the San Juan community of Trinidad and aims to contribute to the revitalization of the "Old Road" corridor and to the Croisee area.  This project includes repairing old structures prominent in the intersection, covering the trench drains, planting miniature flower gardens, and adding pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.

ANNUAL ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANUP

Anybody who has been to Trinidad, be it native, immigrant or tourist, can tell you of the ravishing beauty of this country.  Sadly, they will probably also comment on the persistent problem of litter through our streets, our beaches and our rain forests.  Environmental cleanups and similar projects have done much to reaffirm the pristine potential of our nation.  Since there can never be too many of such efforts, the Glenn Family Foundation is partnering with local schools and juvenile detention centers to organize a series of "clean up" days every November.  The clean-up days will begin with an orientation before a morning shift.  After lunch there will be a short lesson and discussion around an environmental issues impacting Trinidad and Tobago today before a final hour of cleaning.

START-UP MICRO-GRANT SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

Beginning in 2021, the Glenn Family Foundation will begin accepting applications on an annual basis for a TT $12,000.00 start-up grant for teams of entrepreneurs specifically based under-served communities such as Laventille, Morvant and Malick.  The objective with this initiative is to drive community change in areas that demonstrate the most need by promoting innovation and ambition.

MARINE CONSERVATION CENTER: MANGROVE AND CORAL REEF CULTIVATION FACILITY

Coral reefs are important in the Caribbean and in marine ecosystems throughout the planet for many different reasons.  For many nations within the Caribbean Sea, coral reefs provide vital protection from the rages of frequent summer hurricanes, support fisheries for both their food supplies and fishing economies and coral reef related tourism (particularly scuba diving and snorkeling) also represent a major source of revenue for local Caribbean communities.  Over the last 30 years, Caribbean coral reefs have suffered enormous declines both in terms of overall coral reef ecosystem "health" and the productivity of reef fisheries.

In an effort to actively support our native marine life and ensure biodiversity for our eco-tourism industry and fishing industry for generations to come, the Glenn Family Foundation is exploring the establishment of multiple facilities where coral reefs and mangrove plants can be cultivated in controlled conditions before being carefully and responsibly transplanted into the wild.
